Deleting your account

Effective from: 26 August 2026

You can delete your Sharefold account, and the data in it, from inside the app — or by writing to us. This page explains exactly what happens, including the one part that cannot be erased and why.

Deleting from inside the app

Open Sharefold and go to Account → Delete account.

The app shows you what will happen before anything is done, including any open balance you still have with other people, and asks you to confirm. An open balance never blocks the deletion — it is written off as settled, with your confirmation, so that you are never trapped inside a product you have asked to leave.

If you cannot open the app

Write to support@sharefold.app from the e-mail address on the account, with the subject “Delete my account”. We will verify that the request is yours and complete the deletion within 30 days.

A guest account has no e-mail address, so there is nothing for us to verify a request against. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data destroys the device key — the only thing that could ever open that account again — and nobody, including us, can recover it. It does not by itself delete anything on the server: entries you filed in a shared space stay there, exactly as they would if you had simply stopped using the app. To have them detached from you, delete the account from inside the app while you still can.

What is erased

  • Your sign-in identity here, immediately.
  • Your Firebase Authentication record — the e-mail address, the password and the Google connection. Deletion asks the provider to remove it, and if the provider cannot be reached the request is held and retried until it succeeds. Until then, one thing survives: the identifier the provider knows you by, kept for the sole purpose of completing this.
  • Your memberships in every space, which are closed.
  • Your display names inside those spaces.
  • Your notification tokens, so no device receives anything again.
  • The copy of your data cached on the device.

What is kept, and why

Financial entries inside a shared space are kept, detached from your identity. They are also the other members’ records: an expense you paid is one half of a figure somebody else is still relying on, and destroying it would silently change their balance without their knowledge or consent.

After deletion those entries carry no direct identifier of yours: no e-mail address, no name, no device. What remains is an internal id the ledger needs in order to stay balanced, which is why we call this detached rather than anonymous — the honest word for it.

A space you were alone in is closed and cannot be reopened. Its entries are not destroyed either, for the same reason nothing financial here is.

We also keep whatever a specific legal obligation requires us to keep, for as long as it requires — and no longer.

How long it takes

Deletion from inside the app takes effect immediately, and the request to your sign-in provider is normally completed within minutes. A request by e-mail is completed within 30 days.

Deletion is permanent. There is no undo, and no recovery window.

Take your data with you first

Before you delete anything, Account → Export in the app writes out your spaces, entries and balances in a portable file. After deletion there is nothing left to export.
